This album has been following me all around. It's been playing on my stereo at home, in the car on the way to get groceries, wafting at me from the speakers on my desktop in the office, in my studio, it has been helping me comfort the Harleys as I attempt to make them more famous than they already are, and it's even found it's way into my iPod pumping into my ears as I zip down I-205 on my bike, tempting me to take the far more scenic and lengthy ride home so I can find that calm centered place I love burying myself in when I am straightening out the turns and just generally trying to find my Zen spot on two wheels. A good quote from the album here would be, "If the world is so round, I think I'd be home by now." Nick Shattell has become my mountain man/honey tongued singer of songs like The City that Sleeps that draws you in with his coarse "Man's Man" sort of voice that matches this plucked out, strummed out, just get down and groove with it sort of music. Every time I listen to this album I keep finding new influences that I hadn't heard before. Out of respect to the artists I resist listing them as I think it causes the reader (That would be you.) to develop opinions and predispositions toward the music that can take away from the ultimate enjoyment of the original works the artist has committed, and trust me, this is an album you have to get. The sounds range from somber to joyful, sincere to jesting and you'll want to give it a spin in the stereo a good number of times to let it settle in. Hailing from Northern California, this band is a first in the CD Reviews, being a band from out of state and all, but they have managed to develop a good fan base here, and if they keep coming back and putting on the shows we got a chance to see ,and on top of that, producing albums that are as magical as this one, then they officially deserve the nomination of being an honorary NW Band My favorite tracks on the album are Further From You, In Case of Water Landing, The Small Sh*t, Relative Suicide, and The City That Sleeps, but to be honest with you there isn't a single song on this album that rates lower than an 8 out of 10. Thank you guys for sharing the album. We here at LiveMusicPDX.com wish you the best, and please keep the good music coming. You can check out Not an Airplane's Myspace Page here. Jake could only give this album 5 Maple Bacon Bars, but wish there were more out there to give.
