Caught in Motion - Drop the Ball Now

What a splendid album.

I've been taking this album all over the place with me for the last week now trying to rap my head around it. Make sense of what I have been thinking, and realizing that I can sum up my thoughts on the whole thing pretty easily.

Caught in Motion is quite simply a great Indie-Pop act. This piano driven album, featuring bright and pleasant vocals reminiscent in some ways to Ben Folds has been a great companion while I sit at home editing photos and also when I just sit down to absorb great musical sounds.

The sounds presented by Caught in Motion are great in their range. The piano playing stands out, well played with underpinnings of jazz sensibilities. The drums, like the piano, also have a reserve and presence not altogether common in most Pop acts, very effectively moving the music along and acting as a rhythmic glue. Finally, the guitar playing is a great addition. Plucked out, strummed along I have to say that this is all together a very well matched group of musicians.

Trying to pick out favorites in this album is a hard thing to do as almost all of the songs stand out as great in their own merit. Personally I recommend giving a listen to Drop the Ball Now, Something's Gotta Give, and Blood Still Beats.

This is the first album of 2009 that I just simply can not recommend enough. If you are looking for a good album to just kick back and hang out with, this is it. Keep the good music coming guys, and we'll look forward to seeing you in concert some time in the very near future.
